CCD Special Report

Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) Has Beekeepers “On the Edge”

The ISBA Board of Directors and the Illinois Department of Agriculture’s Apiary Inspection Team are closely watching CCD throughout the United States and Illinois. There have been no conclusive research findings pointing to the cause(s) of CCD, only theories. As soon as conclusive research findings are known, the ISBA will post the information on this website as well as publish information in its newsletter. If you are not yet a member of the ISBA and/or have not registered your colonies, please do so ASAP. We are unable to communicate to you if we do not know you are out there. Membership and registration information can be found on this website. We also encourage all ISBA members to join our Yahoo Group. This on-line community allows instant communication to all members via e-mail.

Please note that while the map seen on the MAAREC website notes that CCD has been reported in Illinois, this has not been verified or confirmed by the State of Illinois Department of Agriculture. Since the data collected by Bee Alert Technology, Inc. and applied to the map is collected anonymously and without confirmation of reported causes, there is no way to verify the validity or integrity of this data. For this reason, we are still reporting no cases of CCD within the state of Illinois. If this official stance changes, we will update this statement.

You can help in the research surrounding CCD! Among many researchers looking into CCD, a multidisciplinary group of researchers has been formed and is called the “CCD Working Group”. This team has been involved in surveying Beekeepers, tallying findings and reporting its results on their website. Click here to read the latest information on CCD.
